Programme: WAPP CLSG Interconnection
The CLSG interconnection was a long-running West African Power Pool project approved years before the Weah administration and financed by multiple development partners. WAPP's 2021 annual report records completion and energisation of the Yekepa–Buchanan–Monrovia–Mano sections in Liberia during 2021. A later World Bank completion report found that Liberia Electricity Corporation received 116 GWh through the interconnector between August 2022 and July 2023. The World Bank estimated that CLSG imports reduced LEC's annual weighted average generation cost by about 20 percent in that period and reported that LEC considered the interconnector transformational. This record therefore concerns operationalisation and benefits realised during 2021–2023, not origination of the regional project.
