Programme: Inclusive Growth Development Policy Operations

The World Bank's Inclusive Growth Development Policy Operations supported reforms intended to improve affordability and the financial sustainability of the electricity sector. The Bank reported that the tariff for poor households was reduced from US$0.385 per kWh to US$0.22 per kWh in May 2021 and was reduced further to US$0.15 per kWh under the 2022 reform operation. The reductions formed part of a broader package dealing with LEC commercial losses, renewable-energy access and sector sustainability. This entry refers specifically to the eligible low-consumption/poor-household tariff and should not be read as a statement that every electricity customer paid the same rate.
