Programme: Domestic Violence Act
The Domestic Violence Bill had been under legislative consideration before the Weah administration. Following concurrence by the Senate and House, President Weah signed the Act in August 2019. The law recognises domestic violence as a serious offence and covers forms of abuse including physical and mental abuse, sexual abuse, neglect and exploitation. United Nations reporting later listed enactment of the Domestic Violence Act among key national measures addressing violence against women and girls.
